RADIAL ARM SAW SAFETY

Note: This document does not provide information about how to operate this machine. It only lists potential hazards associated with using the machine and safety practices. Before using the machine be sure to receive proper instruction on it's use.

Potential hazards:
Because of the sharp high speed blade, the following hazards exist.

Any body contact with the rotating blade will cause severe injury.

Clothing or other articles that contact the blade could become entangled and pull the operator into the saw.

Pieces of wood and saw dust can be thrown out of the saw and can be hazardous.

The saw blade can possibly spring forward if it hits hard objects embedded in the wood such as nails or wire.

Any objects including body parts such as hands and fingers in the path of the blade can be cut.

Safety practices:
Because of the potential hazards the following safety rules must be followed.

Be sure to perform only operations you know how to do safely.

Always wear safety glasses.

Never wear clothes or other articles that dangle and could catch on the saw.

Be sure to have firm footing.

Check the saw to be sure it is in good working order.

Be sure the blade is properly attached.

Make sure all appropriate clamps and locking handles are tight.

Be sure the blade guard is attached and operates freely.

Make all adjustments with the saw turned off, and unplugged if the blade will be touched.

Use extension tables to help support long stock.

Always hold the stock against the fence while making cuts.

Never turn the power on until you are in working position.

Never operate the saw with anything in the blade path that is not to be cut.

Do not cross your arms in front of the blade while making a cut.

Do not look away while the saw is running.

Never move or remove the stock until the saw has been returned to the rear of the saw.

Turn off the saw or use a stick to remove small scraps from the table area near the blade.

Do not make adjustments or leave the saw until it has completely stopped.

Keep the table uncluttered.

Do not allow others to crowd the saw work area.
